AC Monza vs Lazio Prediction

Monza vs Lazio Prediction 04.05.2024. Lazio, which has re-entered the fight for a European spot, will face Monza, a mid-table team, on Saturday at 6 PM, as part of the 35th round of the Italian Serie A.

Even though they finished as runners-up last season, this year Lazio has had a tougher journey. However, with a new coach at the helm, they hope to prolong the home team’s slump.

Monza Team News

Monza’s hopes for an unexpected spot in European competitions have long since faded, and a once-promising season now seems to be slowly sinking into mediocrity. Last weekend, Matteo Pessina prevented a loss against Lecce by scoring from a penalty in stoppage time, leveling the score after Nikola Krstović had netted a spectacular late goal.

The 1-1 draw extended Monza’s winless streak to five games, the longest such period for coach Raffaele Palladino since he took charge of the first team in September 2022. Monza currently sits in 11th place, the same as last year, right in the middle of the standings. Their only remaining motivation is to try to reach 10th place to finish the season in the top half of the table.

Ahead of the match against Lazio, Monza has lost its last two home games, against Napoli and Atalanta, and is now 11 points behind their opponents from the capital. After two defeats last season and a 1-1 draw in the September fixture against Lazio, a victory over the Biancocelesti would at least provide a small boost to end the season on a more positive note.

Monza might be without Dany Mota and Patrick Ciurria due to injuries, and center-back Armando Izzo is also doubtful because of a thigh issue. Due to the suspension of Roberto Gagliardini, Lazio’s loaned player Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro will likely stay in midfield alongside Matteo Pessina, who now has six goals this season, two fewer than top scorer Andrea Colpani. Colpani, who has been linked with a move to Lazio this summer as a possible replacement for Luis Alberto, was on the bench last week but could get a chance to play, as could Daniel Maldini and forward Milan Djuric.

Lazio Team News

Since taking over as head coach of Lazio from Maurizio Sarri, Igor Tudor has made a significant impact, achieving his fourth league win in the last five games when Mattia Zaccagni scored the only goal against his former club Verona in Rome. Tudor, who previously coached Verona and had a brief stint at Marseille, has helped Lazio recover from the slump that occurred towards the end of Sarri’s tenure.

Since Sarri’s departure, Lazio has earned the most points in Serie A (15, one more than the newly crowned champions, Inter Milan) and rejoined the battle for a spot among the top seven, which will be decided later this month. Despite the recent loss in the Coppa Italia semi-final against Juventus, another of Tudor’s former clubs, last week’s win gave Lazio a five-point lead over eighth-place Fiorentina, though Fiorentina has one more game in hand.

By strengthening their defense, Lazio now has the opportunity to record three consecutive clean sheets in Serie A for the first time since last spring when they climbed to second place behind the dominant Napoli. A year later, a place in the Conference League would be a satisfactory achievement, and depending on how successful Italian clubs are in UEFA competitions this season, up to eight European spots could be available.

Goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, recovering from an ankle injury, is expected to be ready to return on Saturday, meaning Christos Mandas will once again take on the role of backup goalkeeper. Despite calf issues, Daichi Kamada, whom Tudor has reintroduced to the starting lineup after losing Sarri’s confidence, should be ready for the game, but Mario Gila and Manuel Lazzari will not be available. Tudor’s biggest lineup challenge will be in attack, where captain Ciro Immobile, who has been struggling, is competing with Taty Castellanos for the role of leading striker in the visiting team.

Monza vs Lazio Prediction

Given that Monza has not been playing well at home and seems to be winding down its season, while Lazio is in much better form and is fighting for a European spot, we assume that Lazio will secure a win and take all three points back to the Italian capital. Additionally, the head-to-head record favors Lazio, so it would be quite a surprise if the visitors did not come away with a victory.
